THE GERSHWIN YEARS
THE GERSHWIN
YEARS is a natural successor to The Sinatra Years and indeed
at many venues has been booked as a follow-up. Again, it has
received great acclaim and in 2003, at Harrow Arts Centre (a
500 seater) it sold out three months in advance, was given
another date a month later which again sold out!!
This
show is unique in that it may be tailored to the size of the
venue. Tony Jacobs and his regular accompanist Jim Barry are
able to present THE GERSHWIN YEARS in smaller, intimate
spaces and at larger theatres with their SWINGTET.
THE GERSHWIN YEARS celebrates the golden era of popular song
and pays tribute to George Gershwin along with Cole Porter,
Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern,
Rodgers and Hart and many other great songwriters.
Songs and tunes include ‘Swanee’, ‘They Can’t Take That Away
From Me’,, ‘A Foggy Day In London Town’, ‘I Got Rhythm’,
‘I’ll Build A stairway To Paradise’ and many more. The show
also features a spot when requests from the audience are put
together in a medley of songs and tunes. Tony Jacobs
presents the show in his relaxed and witty manner with
interesting and often humorous anecdotes about the
songwriters and performers.
“Now that’s entertainment!” – The Dorset Echo.
